Woodstock, New York -Sala 3

Richar Forster I was born and raised in New York City and began painting at age 9. I was fascinated by the smell and feel of paint and the richness of the colors.

I attended the High School of Art and Design, Pratt Institute and The Art Students League, taking a degree from Pratt in painting.

Although my early works were predominantly surrealistic and abstractions, I was significantly influenced by The New York School of painters who worked in the 1940s through the 60s. After seeing a major retrospective of their work at the Whitney Museum in the mid 1960's, I have been a painter of expressionism and non-representational painting to this day.

I began living in the Hudson Valley of New York in the late 1960s after achieving some success in New York City, and was able to continue painting full time in my new environment. Certainly, other aspects of life became of increasing importance and concern, so I was unable to paint as much as I would have liked. I was also gradually losing my hearing to a hereditary disease of the cochlear nerve.

Some twelve years ago I was able to return to painting full time. I published my web site in 1996.
I have been able to find success with those who have an appreciation for expressionistic and non–representational painting.

Throughout my career in painting I have used the richness of color and form, line and textures to create dramatic expressions of how I see the world. The work is romantic in many ways, particularly because of the intense color that I use. I strive for expressions that the viewer can adapt to their own vision. The work is always changing, depending on light, environments and the moods of the viewer, so that, I believe, it always has something new to say.
